How long does FELIWAY® Optimum take to work?

When using FELIWAY® Optimum, many cat parents start to see results for
their cat within the first seven days of use. However, all cats are different.
The first signs of enhanced serenity may come later depending on the duration
and severity of your cat’s signs of stress. We recommend using FELIWAY® Optimum for a period of at least one month, and ideally use it continuously for the maximum benefit.

How long should I use FELIWAY® Optimum for?

Most cats benefit from the continued use of FELIWAY® Optimum to create a pleasant environment in the home, with the minimum recommended duration being one month of use. This ensures that FELIWAY® Optimum has time to take full, though you could start to see enhanced serenity in your cat much sooner.

When should I use FELIWAY® Optimum?

For the best results, it’s recommended that FELIWAY® Optimum is used
constantly or for a minimum of at least one month. Simply leave the diffuser
plugged into an electric socket 24/7 to provide ongoing support and enhanced
serenity for your cat.

You should consider using FELIWAY® Optimum in the following situations:

If your cat is urine spraying
If your cat is scratching walls or furniture
If your cat shows signs of stress such as hiding, reduced activity or appetite, or overgrooming
If you are anticipating changes to your home (e.g. moving house, renovations, redecorating your home, or arrival of a new pet or person into the household)

Where should I use FELIWAY® Optimum?

For the best results, you should use FELIWAY® Optimum in the room where
your cat spends most of their time. Plug the diffuser into a properly functioning electrical socket that has clear space above it of at least 4ft (1.2m). This allows the oily vapor that carries the calming messages to rise above the diffuser in a column of warm air and into the surrounding environment.

Where should FELIWAY® Optimum NOT be used?

To ensure your FELIWAY® Optimum diffuser can work as effectively as
possible, you should avoid using it in:

Hallways - Cats naturally spend very little of their time in hallways, so FELIWAY® Optimum will have a reduced effect if used here.
Near the litter box – Likewise, cats spend very little time near their litter tray, so the efficacy would be reduced if used here. If the litter box is in the room where your cat spends the most time, there is no problem plugging it in this room.

"We have 8 cats and while this did take the full month for effects to kick in (as the packaging states) we also started two of our cats in fluoxetine, changed our feeding strategy and moved into a bigger home (lol, the last one was only due to work purposes though. . . not the cats). However, there is now peace and harmony (no more staring down other cats, stalking behavior, etc). I'd highly recommend trying the Optimum formula for a multi at household."

"I think the Optimun Feliway Plugins work immensely with helping my cats get along well. They help with the outside TNR cat I fed for years and finally forced her to come inside and stay. It took a couple months for her to adjust to being inside and she’s still adjusting, but now loves it inside. She is thankful to be inside now. My male cats knew her through the window plus one had been outside with her till I got him in first. That helps with them all living together in harmony. Been using for a month with mixed results

"I have 2 10 year old neutered male cats who have lived together for at least 9 and 1 started spraying about 5 years ago and can be aggressive with the other even though the other cat is bigger n is a gentle giant most of the time but has his limits n bites him back with restraint to stop him. Anyway the feliway is calming down the bigger cat (manny) n Eddy the aggressive cat is still spraying but not as much?"

Seems to work somewahat

"I rescued a cat 2+ yrs ago & brought him home, I already hve a cat that I raised from a kitten but brought this little guy who was starving, full of earmites & worms, a tenant moved & left him outside under the deck, I got him to eat & put him in a carrier & brought him home to nurse bak to health hoping i could get someone to adopt him after he was all fixed up, well its been over 2 yrs. & Binx is part of the family now along w/3 dogs & my other cat Remi. Well the two do not get along & still fight but they can at least b in the same area w/the help of feliway plugins, I believe it does help some but honestly they still do not get along & binx is around 2yrs. & kinda harrassses my older cat remi who is 8yrs. Old Remi has never like him from day one, but like I said I think it works to an extent & I will continue to hve them plugged in not taking any chances, I believe it takes the edge off & i hve had more luck w/the optimum than the multi cat plug in, mayb my two cats prefer it who knows but I will continue as I hve tried everything mayb they just aren't meant to be friends unfortunately for me, but i love them both & will tredge on:woman-shrugging:"

Does Not Work for All Cats

"I've been using Feliway for six months. Three bottles plugged into living room area (each 10 feet apart) where cats hang out. I see some calmness but two females still hiss and growl at each other. They have their own space."

"We have 12 year old sibling (female) rescues who have always had an adversarial relationship. Unfortunately it's progressed to the bulled cat regularly peeing outside the litterbox across the house. Horrible. I've plugged in multiple Feliway plug-ins across the house with no improvement."
